About Designer: Ariadna Miquel
Born in Barcelona in 1979, Ariadna Miquel is a talented industrial designer who graduated from Elisava, Escola Superior de Disseny. Her final project earned an excellent score and was later awarded the prestigious Adi Fad Medal in 2002 (Foment de les Arts i el Disseny). Ariadna's journey has been marked by collaboration and innovation, including projects with companies such as Alcatel and Bormioli Rocco. She has also been part of noteworthy exhibitions, including Reflexus, with Ingo Maurer at the Centre d'Art Santa Mònica, and the installation Flux Mundis for the MNAC, Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.
Since 2003, Ariadna has been an integral part of the internal design team at nanimarquina, where she contributes to the development of the brand's collections and collaborations with external designers. Her passion for textile materials and curiosity about production techniques have allowed her to bring innovative textures and colors to life. At nanimarquina, she is deeply involved in projects from conception to production, working closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and artisans. In 2008 and 2009, she served as a member of the Board of Directors of Adi Fad.
About Designer: Nani Marquina
True to herself and sensing the potential success of her designs, Nani Marquina founded her own business in 1987, despite the challenges of the era. In 1987, she launched her eponymous brand, Nanimarquina, at a time when contemporary rugs were a rarity in Spain. Her background in industrial design, gained at the Escuela Massana of Barcelona, laid the foundation for her creative journey.
Nani's vision for her brand was rooted in values such as observation, innovation, and enthusiasm. She aimed to use traditional craftsmanship and techniques to create contemporary pieces for homes. In a bold move in 1993, Nani Marquina relocated her manufacturing facilities to the north of India. This marked a significant shift, incorporating craftsmanship and tradition as new design concepts and strengthening the brand's identity.
Over the years, the brand has earned numerous awards, including the National Design Award and the Premi Cambra a la Gestió Empresarial (Chamber Award for Design Management) in 2005. Nani Marquina herself received accolades like the International Women’s Entrepreneurial Challenge Award from the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. This personal achievement led to the 2007 FIDEM Award for Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year. Nani has held key positions, including Chairwoman of ADP (Professional Design Association) and Red (Reunión Empresas de Diseño). From 2014 to 2019, she served as the President of the FAD (Foment de les Arts i Disseny) in Barcelona.
In recent years, Nani has returned to her creative roots, leading the design team of the company to develop one of the most successful collections in Nanimarquina's history: Tres.
