Designer: Nani Marquina
In 1987, Nani Marquina fearlessly pursued her creative vision by establishing her own business. This bold step, taken despite the challenges of the time, laid the foundation for her remarkable journey. At a juncture when contemporary rugs were a rarity in Spain, Nani Marquina introduced her eponymous brand to the world.
Nani Marquina's educational background in industrial design, acquired at Barcelona's Escuela Massana, provided the bedrock for her creative pursuits. Following the success of her initial bespoke textile designs, she embarked on a mission to create, distribute, and innovate in the realm of rugs and textile home products. Her values of observation, innovation, and enthusiasm guided her path, with the overarching goal of infusing traditional craftsmanship and techniques into contemporary pieces.
In 1993, Nani Marquina embarked on an audacious journey, relocating her manufacturing facilities to northern India. This pivotal move underscored her commitment to integrating craftsmanship and tradition as foundational elements of her brand's identity.
Over the years, the brand has garnered an impressive array of accolades, including the National Design Award and the Chamber Award for Design Management (Premi Cambra a la Gestió Empresarial) in 2005. Nani Marquina herself has earned several nominations for the Príncipe Felipe Award for Company Excellence. Her entrepreneurial acumen led to the International Women’s Entrepreneurial Challenge Award from the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and the prestigious 2007 FIDEM Award for Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year. She has also held leadership positions as the Chairwoman of ADP (Professional Design Association) and Red (Reunión Empresas de Diseño). From 2014 to 2019, Nani Marquina served as the President of Foment de les Arts i Disseny (FAD) in Barcelona.
In recent years, Nani has returned to her creative roots, dedicating her focus to the artistic side of the business. Leading the design team at the company, they've collaborated to develop one of nanimarquina's most successful collections in history, known as "Tres."
Designer: Ariadna Miquel
Ariadna Miquel, born in Barcelona in 1979, is an integral part of the creative force behind the Chobi Collection. She graduated in industrial design from Elisava, Escola Superior de Disseny, and her final project earned her an excellent score, along with the prestigious Adi Fad Medal in 2002.
Ariadna's design journey has been characterized by collaboration and innovation. She has contributed to projects for companies such as Alcatel and Bormioli Rocco. Her work has also been featured in exhibitions, including "Reflexus" with Ingo Maurer at the Centre d'Art Santa Mònica and the installation "Flux Mundis" for the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC).
Since 2003, Ariadna has been an integral part of nanimarquina's internal design team. Her role involves the development of the brand's collections and collaborations with external partners. Her fascination with textile materials and a keen curiosity for production techniques enable her to bring innovative textures to life while exploring the art of color application.
Ariadna's journey at nanimarquina goes beyond design concepts; she actively accompanies projects from inception to production, collaborating closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and artisans. In 2008 and 2009, she served as a member of the Board of Directors of Adi Fad.
