The Fenix rug is completely handmade using an innovative take on the chain-stitch technique, which gives it an attractive embroidery-type texture. Its neatly drawn naturalist pattern masks the presence of several phoenixes hidden within the design. The very fine and delicate pattern changes colors randomly because it is made with tie-dye yarns.

Fenix, an embroidered rug with an innovative application of the chain-stitch technique At GAN, we have developed our own system to translate chain-stitching into a rug-making technique. First, we draw the design we want to embroider on a cloth, which is attached to a wooden frame. Using this as a reference, and with a special crochet needle, the pattern is embroidered by hand with great sharpness. Siamak Egharloo, designer of the Fenix rug Siamak Egharloo is a designer of Iranian origin who lives and works in Tehran, where he founded his own studio in 2008. Since his early years, he felt the appeal of design, graduating in graphic arts at the secondary school of visual arts. After studying Design and Applied Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran, he continued his studies to receive a Masters degree in Carpet Design and Manufacture. Since its inception, his career has been linked to designing and producing new styles of Iranian carpets, both classical and contemporary, having directed the brand Hamian Carpets. He is specialized in creating new patterns and in the development of novel manufacturing techniques. He is also a professor of Rug Design and Oriental Art History and an inspector for the Iran Carpet Science Union.
